Tapahtumien kuvaus: In the early hours of 22.8.1939, someone broke into the wine cellar of the Kasino seaside resort at Koivisto and stole 83 bottles of spirits. The following morning 24 bottles were found in the forest, and the police began monitoring the area. At 8:30 pm, a rental car from Vyborg was spotted. Constable Metsälä and resort caretaker Väinö Hirvonen approached it stealthily. Three men were loading bottles into the car. When Metsälä tried to arrest them, one of them shot him. When more police officers arrived, the driver of the car was still there, but the two other men had fled into the forest. Shots were exchanged, but the two men managed to get away. Metsälä was taken to the municipal doctor in Koivisto and then to the hospital in Vyborg, where he died on September 14th. Two days after the shooting, one of the suspects involved, Uljas Nevalainen, was arrested in Vyborg. The shooter, Väinö Spiring, managed to evade arrest for a week before being captured.
