Tapahtumien kuvaus: On the evening of October 12th, Constable Kuusaro received a call from the Civil Guard headquarters in Tohmajärvi. The caller reported that a group of drunken men were at the café in the neighbouring building. Kuusaro went there together with Auxiliary Constable Vihtori Pajarinen. When they arrived, the drunken men had already left, but instead they encountered a serviceman named Keijo Ketolainen. Ketolainen was accompanied by Sergeant Eino Ketolainen, Veikko Parikka and a few other men. Ketolainen asked Kuusaro to come with him to settle an old matter just the two of them. Kuusaro replied that they had nothing that had to be settled, but he suggested that they enter the Civil Guard headquarters to talk. The policemen stepped inside followed by Ketolainen. As soon as they had entered the building, Ketolainen pulled out a Mauser pistol and started shooting at Kuusaro. Kuusaro grabbed Ketolainen and tried to wrestle him down. During the struggle, Ketolainen fired several shots at Kuusaro. Pajarinen took cover, and Ketolainen started shooting at him as well. Pajarinen fell to the floor. When Ketolainen then bent over Pajarinen, Pajarinen grabbed his pistol. Ketolainen fired several shots at Pajarinen, killing him. Ketolainen was arrested later during the night. Ketolainen said that he had killed Kuusaro due to an old grudge and Pajarinen because he had tried to help Kuusaro.
