Tapahtumien kuvaus: On the evening of 9.10.1980, Jaakko Moilanen was intoxicated and caused a disturbance at a bar. Outside of the bar, he began quarrelling with one of its customers. Moilanen went to his sister’s home to pick up his nephew’s shotgun and then returned to the bar. Those present panicked when seeing the armed man. Moilanen fired a shot into the air, and the police were alerted to the shooting. When they arrived, Moilanen was hiding behind a truck. Sergeant Seppänen and Constable Antti Ervasti tried to arrest Moilanen, whereupon Moilanen shot Seppänen. Ervasti returned fire, whereupon Moilanen dropped the shotgun and ran away. With the help of a few other people present, Ervasti managed to catch Moilanen after a short chase. Despite efforts to save Seppänen’s life, he died from his wounds at the health centre in Puolanka.
