Tapahtumien kuvaus: On February 17th, 1966, Cavalryman Kalevi Johannes Rissanen left the main guard post at Hennala Garrison in Lahti without authorisation. He took with him a submachine gun and ammunition. As it was assumed that Rissanen would travel back to his hometown Helsinki, the police in the Helsinki metropolitan area were informed of his escape in the early hours after midnight. Police patrols were sent to guard the road from Lahti, and among the constables sent were Timo Mikkola and Reino Harjunpää. Their assignment was to inspect incoming vehicles. They were in Malmi near the junction where the road from Viikki met the road towards Lahti. After six am, they stopped a fuel truck. Rissanen, whom the truck had given a ride, rushed out of the vehicle when the police began to inspect it. Constable Harjunpää saw him and told him to stop, but Rissanen opened fire against Harjunpää with the submachine gun. The wounded Harjunpää was still conscious while transported to Malmi Hospital by car, but once he arrived there was nothing that could be done to save his life. Rissanen was apprehended later, and during the arrest he once more opened fire against the police.
