Tapahtumien kuvaus: On 22.10. 1997 at 2:43 am, the police were informed that a robbery had just taken place at Hotel Palace. Sergeant Eero Holsti and Senior Constable Antero Palo were patrolling as usual near the hotel when they heard about the robbery. A short while later, they approached a man walking down the street to ask him whether he was connected to the robbery. When one of the policemen went to the police radio to get more information about what the robber had looked like, the man decided to act. He pulled out a pistol and pointed it at the policeman on the street, ordering him to get closer to the police car and the other officer to come out of the car. He ordered them to lie down on the street beside the police car. Palo lay down prone whereas Holsti only kneeled. This made the robber nervous, and he pointed his pistol at Palo, ordering Palo to tell Holsti to lie down. At that moment, the robber launched a bullet at Palo. Holsti uttered something, upon which the robber shot him in the back. The robber fired a few more bullets at the policemen and then ran away. A massive manhunt for the killer was initiated, and the police managed to catch him at a hotel in Hämeenlinna on October 25th.
