Tapahtumien kuvaus: Immonen was taking an evening walk with his family in the city centre of Lappeenranta when they encountered three men who were causing a disturbance on the corner of Kauppakatu and Oksasenkatu. Although Immonen was off duty, he approached the men and asked them to leave. They initially began leaving, but a moment later one of them shot at Immonen from behind, missing at first. When Immonen turned around, the man fired again and hit Immonen. The shooter tried to run away, but Immonen caught him and wrestled him to the ground. However, Immonen died immediately upon subduing the shooter. Other policemen arrived at the scene and arrested the shooter and those who had been with him. Constable Eero Immonen had been a police officer since January 1928 and had worked in Lappeenranta since October 1929. He had been transferred to the criminal investigation department on May 1st 1935.
