Tapahtumien kuvaus: On the morning of September 27th, Detective Lähde was sent to an auction house on Esplanadinkatu 22 to investigate a bicycle theft. There, Lähde arrested Harry Yrjö Adolf Antell, a former detective whom he suspected of the theft. Antell said that he had been about to meet his accomplice Harald Alexander Lönnström, another former detective, at the corner of Bulevardi and Yrjönkatu. Lähde accompanied Antell to this meeting point, and when they met Lönnström, the three talked for a while and then went to a basement on Yrjönkatu 7, where the two suspects said that they had been hiding stolen goods. When they had entered the basement, Lönnström held Lähde at gunpoint while Antell took Lähde’s Browning service pistol. They forced Lähde into a storage compartment, tied him and pulled a bag over his head. Antell later recounted that as he was going to loosen the drawstrings of the bag, the pistol in his hand accidentally went off, wounding Lähde. Antell and Lönnström fled, leaving the wounded Lähde in the basement. This was sometime between 9 and 9:30 in the morning. Around noon, Lähde was discovered outside, bleeding from his wounds. Before dying on October 6th, Lähde was able to reveal who had shot him, resulting in the arrest of Antell and Lönnström. As former detectives, both had previously been Lähde’s colleagues.
