Description of events: On 18.9.1958 at 11:15 pm, the radio police were informed that someone had broken into the premises of a company named Clorideks on Särkiniementie 27 in Lauttasaari. According to the report, a man had been spotted inside the factory. Constables Kauko Kautto and Raimo Rajahuhta were sent to the scene. In the staircase, Kautto spotted the burglar. The burglar, who had been taken by surprise, shot at Kautto and ran away past him into a nearby forest. Rajahuhta called for backup and then went to help the wounded Kautto. Kautto died on the way to hospital. More than 100 police officers searched for the killer during the night. In the morning, two drivers spotted the fugitive and followed him until the police arrived. He was apprehended near the Sinebrychoff Villa as he tried to flee to Tapiola. The man proved to be Pentti Järvinen, an offender known to the police, and he later confessed.
