Tapahtumien kuvaus: On 24.8.1958 just after 6 pm, Senior Constable Jooseppi Toivonen was informed that two neighbours were quarrelling in the village Maatiala and that the situation was turning dangerous. When he arrived at the scene, one of the neighbours, the slightly intoxicated Kalle August Sirkiä, was standing in his yard. Toivonen talked with Sirkiä for a moment. Sirkiä then entered his house, and when he came out on the front steps again, he opened fire at Toivonen. Toivonen was accompanied by his 20-year-old son, who rushed towards Sirkiä and took away his weapon. The younger Toivonen tried to take his father to the hospital, but Jooseppi Toivonen died on the way. Sirkiä was later arrested at him home.
