Tapahtumien kuvaus: It was evening, and Laukkanen was patrolling in Kallio. At Kolmas linja 17, he tried to arrest a drunken man. The man pulled out a Browning pistol and shot at Laukkanen. The bullet missed, and the shooter tried to run away. Laukkanen ran after him. During the pursuit, the man fired several shots at Laukkanen, eventually hitting him. Laukkanen was to be taken to the Surgical Hospital but died on the way. The shooter soon turned himself in to the police. Apart from a brief leave of absence, Laukkanen had been a police officer since 1918.
