Tapahtumien kuvaus: At 9:30 pm on Christmas Eve, the police were informed that a traffic entrepreneur named Löflund was abusing his family. Constables Kääriäinen and Virtanen drove to the Löflund home. When they arrived, only Löflund and his mother-in-law were still present as the others had fled. The policemen managed to calm Löflund down and had a conversation with him in the kitchen. During the whole time, Löflund had a pistol hidden behind his back, and suddenly he took aim at the policemen. Virtanen rushed towards Löflund but was shot while approaching. Virtanen died instantly. At 9:45 pm, the police received another call, and the Sheriff went to the Löflund home with three constables. When they reached the yard, Löflund came towards them with the pistol still in his hand, but he surrendered without trying to resist. Constable Kääriäinen was found lying dead in the garden. Löflund was known among the local police since they had repeatedly come to his home to calm him down when he had acted aggressively. This Christmas, his anger had been triggered when his daughter had received a gift package from a pen pal abroad.
