Tapahtumien kuvaus: 14.4. On April 14th, a deaf-mute shoemaker named Anton Wilhelm Lehtinen was murdered in his workshop on Pirkkalan valtatie 16. The next day, the Tampere Police Department sent out patrols to look for the killer and block all roads leading out of the city. Vaittinen’s patrol was assigned to inspect outgoing traffic on the road towards Lempäälä. At 9:45 pm, the police stopped two men to check their identities. One of the men had a pistol in his pocket and fired at Vaittinen. Both men then ran away. Vaittinen was taken to Hatanpää Hospital, where he later died. The men who had shot Vaittinen were not, however, connected to the murder of the shoemaker Lehtinen. They were identified as Soviet spies Eino Johannes Laakso and Roy Mäkelä. It remained unclear which one of them had shot Vaittinen. Mäkelä moved to the Soviet Union in 1947, and Laakso became politically active in the left-wing coalition Finnish People’s Democratic League.
Tekijä 1: The identity of the shooter could not be determined.
