Tapahtumien kuvaus: Construction worker Erik Johannes Laaksonen was threatening passers-by with a knife on the street Lapinlahdenkatu. Laaksonen had escaped from a hospital in Nikkilä, where he had been admitted due to a mental disorder. When the police arrived, Laaksonen entered the flat he was staying in, and the police followed. A struggle ensued, and Laaksonen stabbed Junior Constable Kallio-Kokko. Kallio-Kokko’s partner Toivo Vastapuu managed to wrestle away the knife from Laaksonen. Vastapuu then turned to Kallio-Kokko to see how he was doing, but at that moment Laaksonen took out another knife and attacked again. Laaksonen then managed to get away, but a radio police unit caught him on Itämerenkatu. Kallio-Kokko was immediately taken to the nearby Maria Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
