Tapahtumien kuvaus: At night on 30.1.1945, the police were informed by the caretaker of the factory Pohjoismainen Silkkitehdas Oy at Mäkelänkatu 62 that there were burglars in the factory. This was a misunderstanding; the management had not informed him that it had hired two night watchmen, and upon seeing the light of a lamp and movement inside the building, he had concluded that someone had broken into the factory. The caretaker guided the policemen to the entrance. The watchmen inside suddenly opened fire without forewarning. A bullet hit Constable Hänninen in the head, and he died instantly. Hänninen had been a police officer since September 1940 but had been temporarily absent while serving in the war between June 1941 and January 1944.
