Tapahtumien kuvaus: Police Constable Lehto arrested a deserter named Emil Åfelt at Karjalohja. Lehto took him to Karjaa, from where he could be transported to the regiment in Tuusula. Lehto and Åfelt arrived at the police station in Karjaa at 2:45 am, and Lehto knocked on the door. The sergeant inside was sleeping and had to get dressed before answering the door. Since it was taking longer than expected, Lehto stepped to the window to knock on it as well. When Lehto had reached the window, Åfelt pulled out a Browning pistol and shot Lehto in the head. Åfelt ran away and reached an inn at Pohja. The innkeeper Einar Björklöf gave Åfelt a ride, and they set off towards Karjalohja. The police in Karjaa called the Karjalohja Civil Guard, which blocked the road ahead. The car with the fugitive appeared a while later, and a shootout ensued. Åfelt fled into the forest, but he soon realised that he would not be able to escape, so he took his own life.
