Tapahtumien kuvaus: At 9 pm on 12.11.1931, Sergeant Antti Ijäs was on his way to the railway station in Imatra. When he had crossed a bridge, someone opened fire. Ijäs was hit by six bullets, and he died immediately. Without delay, the police and Civil Guard initiated a manhunt for the killer. They found out that the shooter was Sten Thure Stade, a former railway official who had committed crimes and was wanted by the police. Stade’s parents lived in Imatra, and both the Sheriff and Ijäs had previously visited them to ask whether they knew where he was. At that time, the parents had denied that they were hiding him, but the truth was that he had been hiding in their attic. Afterwards, Stade had gone out, taking a pistol and bullets with him. Stade knew that Ijäs walked to the railway station every night at 9 pm when the train was scheduled to depart, and this made it easy for Stade to pick a suitable spot for ambushing Ijäs. Stade also knew the surroundings and the city well, which made it easy for him to flee afterwards.
