Description of events: The police went to search a cottage at Könkäänjärvi in Inari. Many people in the area knew that Aleksi Lassila, who lived there, was selling alcohol. Constable Karisaari discovered a few litres of alcohol and showed Lassila what he had found. When Karisaari seized the alcohol, Lassila grabbed a Browning pistol and fired six shots at Karisaari. Karisaari managed to fire two shots at Lassila. The house was owned by Briita Aitio and her husband Abraham Aitio. Mrs Aitio died when hit by one of Lassila’s bullets, and Mr Aitio was wounded. The seriously wounded Constable Karisaari died at the scene. One of Karisaari’s bullets had, however, hit Lassila, who died by the door.
