Tapahtumien kuvaus: That evening and night, Constable Marttinen had maintained order at a party held at the Kolu farm in Petäjävesi. He was about to go home and entered the stable to take his horse. There, someone hit him in the head with a pole. Marttinen was pronounced dead when the wounds were inspected. Several police officers were called to the scene to search for the assailant. The perpetrator proved to be Paavo Lahnala, whose motive had been revenge for a previous criminal case involving alcohol. Marttinen had been a police officer since 1918.
