Tapahtumien kuvaus: Soldiers Nils Johannes Strömbäck from Riihimäki and Veikko Edvard Multanen from Keuruu were intoxicated and causing a disturbance in Vammala, where they disrupted traffic on Marttilankatu. Both soldiers had left their units without permission. Constable Järvinen, who was wearing civilian clothes, approached them, showed his police badge and asked them to step aside. The soldiers began insulting Järvinen and attacked him with their fists. Strömbäck got behind Järvinen, grabbed a bayonet that was fastened on his boot and stabbed Järvinen with it. Järvinen staggered aside and fell to the ground, and Strömbäck rushed after him and stabbed him again. Multanen was arrested the same evening and Strömbäck the following morning.
